To make
sure the online retailer you purchase from is reliable, it is best to go with
one that accepts Visa or Mastercard, as if there are any problems, they'll be
much quicker to resolve the dispute with a chargeback or similar method.

Serving wine
One of the more enjoyable pleasures of wine
collecting is being able to
share your wine with your family and guests. In this respect, it is
important to serve the wine utilizing proper etiquette. Wine should be
served at the proper temperature. If this is not done, it can affect the
taste of the wine. The optimum temperature for serving champagne is to
chill
it from 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit; for white wines between 40 and 45
degrees F; and for red wines approximately 55 degrees F. Champagne
should be
kept on ice after opening. Although, in order to release more flavor,
the
wines should be left at the serving area to warm up.
In order to chill wine, you need to allow about ten minutes per 4
degrees F
to reduce the temperature of the wine. In other words, if the
temperature of
your wine room is 65 degrees F, the wine will need to be placed in the
refrigerator for nearly 40 minutes before you serve it. If you notice
sediment in your wine bottle, let it stand upright for about an hour so
that
the sediment will settle at the bottom. You may do this while chilling
the
wine in the refrigerator.
Another important aspect of serving wine is the actual wine glass you
will
serve it in. Wine glasses consist of three main types. These are the
tall,
thin glasses for serving champagne and sparkling wines; the large bowl
shaped glasses for serving red wines; and the more popular tulip shaped
which are for white wines. The shape of the wine glass may affect the
taste
of the wine. For example, the tulip shaped glass may actually improve
the
taste of white wine.
To begin your collection of wine glasses, you may prefer to start with
the
more popular tulip shaped glasses. These glasses curve toward the inside
of
the glass and will normally hold 10 ounces of wine and are usually
clear.
The shape of this glass will actually serve to hold in the scent (also
known
as the bouquet) in addition to improving the taste. As your wine
collection
grows, you should consider investing in other types of glasses more
suitable
to the other types of wine in your collection.
There is a proper method of serving your wine. The method of serving
wine
can add to the ambiance of your event. The actual taste of the wine will
be
improved if it is served at the proper temperature and in the proper
wine
glass.
Pour the wine towards the center of the wine glass about two-thirds
full,
which will enhance the fragrance of the wine. You have no doubt seen
people
swirl the wine glass before drinking the wine. This is done because the
swirling action raises the bouquet of the wine.
When pouring sparkling wine, pour it against the glass rather than
towards
the middle. This will allow the bubbles to be preserved. When finished
pouring, turn the bottle a little as you lift it, as this will prevent
the
wine from dripping.
A few words of etiquette advice: If you are serving wine at a dinner
party,
serve the women and older guests first, then the men, and lastly,
yourself.
You may serve additional wine when needed throughout the meal. You will
enhance your abilities as a hostess by properly serving your wine.
Sharing
your wine collection with friends and family can add a nice touch when
entertaining your guests.
